Classification of HDMI connectors

HDMI cables consist of multiple pairs of shielded twisted pair wires responsible for transmitting video signals and individual conductors for power, ground, and other low-speed device communication channels. HDMI connectors are used to end cables and connect devices in use. These connectors are trapezoidal and have indentations at two corners for precise alignment when inserted, somewhat similar to USB connectors. The HDMI standard includes five different types of connectors (below picture ) :

·Type A (standard) : This connector uses 19 pins and three differential pairs, measures 13.9 mm x 4.45 mm, and has a slightly larger female head. This connector is electrically backward compatible with DVI-D.

·Type B (Dual link type) : This connector uses 29 pins and six differential pairs and measures 21.2mm x 4.45mm. This type of connector is designed to work with extremely high resolution displays, but has never been used in products due to its large size. The connector is electrically backward compatible with DVI-D.

·Type C (Small) : Smaller in size (10.42mm x 2.42mm) than Type A (standard), but with the same features and 19-pin configuration. This connector is designed for portable devices.

·Type D (miniature) : Compact size, 5.83mm x 2.20mm, 19 pins. The connector is similar to the micro USB connector and is designed for small portable devices.

·Type E (automotive) : Designed with a locking plate to prevent disconnection due to vibration and a moisture-proof and dust-proof housing. This connector is primarily intended for automotive applications and is also available in relay versions for connecting consumer A/V products.

All of these connector types are available in both male and female versions, providing flexibility to meet a variety of connection needs. These connectors are available in straight or right-angle, horizontal or vertical directions. The female connector is usually integrated in the signal source and receiving device. In addition, adapters and couplers can be used at any time according to different connection configurations. For applications in demanding environments, rugged connector models are also available to ensure durability and reliability in harsh conditions.
